This is a reproduction of Alexandre Calame’s masterpiece, The Vale of 1849. This Swiss painter lost his father when he was fifteen years old and, while working at a bank to support his mother, he began drawing sketches of the Swiss countryside. Four years later in 1829 he met his patron who made it possible for him to study under Francois Diday. Within six years he wsa exhibiting his landscapes and forest paintings in Paris and Berlin and became associated with the Dusseldorf School. He travelled to Italy in 1844 and remained prolific throughout his life which ended at Menton, France in 1864. The original of this painting is in the Öffentliche Kunstsammlung Basel, Kunstmuseum and measures 194 by 260.5 cm.

Troy Caperton was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1949. Raised in South Louisiana from 1953, he graduated from Baylor University in 1976 and pursued a Masters in History at the University of Louisiana until 1988 when he moved to Austin, Texas. For over ten years Caperton has been selling his original art and reproductions of original work and the masters through various portals on the Internet. One of his works won a Juror’s Prize at Austin’s Art Erotica in 2010. He has always been employed in helping positions and continues to produce works for the enjoyment of the public.
