Artist's Description
This is a reproduction of Jean Delville’s masterpiece “Prometheus” of 1907. It portrays the Titan bring fiery light to mankind. The artist was forty years old at the time of this creation having founded the Salon d’Art Idealiste thirteen years before. He became one of the leading lights of European Symbolism. By the time of this work, however, Delville’s career was waning and he was largely forgotten and ignored by the time of his death in 1953. Exhibitions in London and Paris in 1968 and 19172 resectively marked the beginning of a revival of interest in his work. He is now recognized as one of the pioneers of Symbolism with an important impact in the history of art.
