This is a reproduction of a print for Karl May’s work, “In the Realm of the Silver Lion” of 1904 or 1905 by Sascha Sneider. Sneider was a German painter and scultptor who studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Art from 1899 when he was twenty-nine. He met Karl May four years later and became the cover artist for several of May’s books. He was threatened with exposure as a gay man by his companion Hellmuth Jahn and he fled to Italy in 1908 where homosexuality was not illegal. He returned to Germany in 1914 where he died from a diabetic stroke in 1927. This work is a charcoal on cardboard and measures about 51 by 81 centimeters. It is in a private collection.
Troy Caperton was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1949. Raised in South Louisiana from 1953, he graduated from Baylor University in 1976 and pursued a Masters in History at the University of Louisiana until 1988 when he moved to Austin, Texas. For over ten years Caperton has been selling his original art and reproductions of original work and the masters through various portals on the Internet. One of his works won a Jurors Prize at Austins Art Erotica in 2010. He has always been employed in helping positions and continues to produce works for the enjoyment of the public.
