Artist's Description

This is a reproduction of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's masterpiece of 1871, Dante's Dream at the time of the Death of Beatrice by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. It measures 83.1 x 124.8 inches and is in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, England. Rossetti founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 when he was twenty years old. He was dedicated to medieval revivalism and was a poet as well as a painter. His early poetry was influenced by John Keats. He founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood with William Hunt and John Everett Millais and they rejected the mechanistic approach to painting first adopted by the Mannerists as well as the formal training regime initiated by Sir Joshua Reynolds. This painting comes from Rossetti's Cheyne Walk that lasted from 1862 until his death in 1882.
