Artist's Description
This is a reproduction of Pelagio Palagi’s 1808 masterpiece, “The Nuptials of Cupid and Psyche”. This Italian painting shows the influence of Mengs and the contemporary art of France. Palagi was famous for taking themes from Ancient Greece and Rome. There is also influence from the Renaissance as Cupid’s form is inspired by Raphael. The Bolognese Pelagio Palagi had moved to Rome two years before he created this masterpiece when he was thirty-three years old. He moved to Milan seven years later and there he founded a very successful private school. Famed also as an architect, sculptor and designer of furniture, he moved to Turin where he died in 1860.

About Pelagio Palagi
Troy Caperton was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1949. Raised in South Louisiana from 1953, he graduated from Baylor University in 1976 and pursued a Masters in History at the University of Louisiana until 1988 when he moved to Austin, Texas. For over ten years Caperton has been selling his original art and reproductions of original work and the masters through various portals on the Internet. One of his works won a Jurors Prize at Austins Art Erotica in 2010. He has always been employed in helping positions and continues to produce works for the enjoyment of the public.
