This is a reproduction of Rudolph Muller's "View of Acropolis from the Pynx" of 1863. Rudolph Muller was a native of Basel, Switzerland, born in 1802. He became known for his watercolors of landscapes in the middle of the Nineteenth Century through the Mediterranean, notably in Italy and Greece. These are charming depictions as they show notable ancient landscapes before the advent of the Modern Era in which these cultural treasures are protected. The contrast between the view of the Acropolis in 1863 and the modern view is overwhelming. Muller died in 1885. This masterpiece is in the Benaki Museum in Athens.
