This is a reproduction of Edward Munch's Masterpiece, "Skrik"of 1893. There are many fascinaing elements surrounding the creation of this wonderful piece. Munch described his inspiration as an event at sundown when he was walking with two friends and was overcome by anxiety and the sense of an "infinite scream passing through Nature". The scene was by the Oslofjord in Norway from the Ekeberg Hill. The red sky could have been associated with the eruption of Krakatoa and the anxiety could have been related to the fact that Munch's sister was a patient at the Asylum on Ekeberg Hill. Munch made several versions of the image, the original in 1893, a lithograph in 1895, a tempera version on cardboard in 1910 and two others. The original version is here represented and is in the possession of the National Gallery of Norway.
