This is a reproduction of “The Discovery of the Body of Catilline aftetr te Battle of Pistoia”, also known as Il ritrovamento del corpo di Catilina dopo la battaglia di Postoia. The painting depicts the aftermath of the brief civil war that ended in 62 BCE when Lucius Sergius Catilina attempted to overturn the rule of the Senate. This painting was produced in 1871 by Alcide Segoni and is in the Gallery of Modern Art in Florence. This was his first canvas and was produced when he was twenty-four years old for which he was won the Trienial contest. He was a Florentine and was studying under Antonio Ciseri at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence when he won the contest. He died in 1894.
