Artist's Description

This is a reproduction of a lovely image of the Cat's Eye Nebula taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. This was the first planetary nebula discovered and remains one of the most complex ever studied. It is located in the constellation Draco. It is abouit 3000 light-years from the earth. The central star explosive cast off its outer gas layers about a thousand years ago. William Herschel discovered the nebula in 1786 and the image was released in September, 2004.
