Artist's Description

This is a reproduction of Gustave Klimt’s 1902 masterpiece, “The Beech Forest”. The artist was forty years old when he created this masterpiece. He had studied in the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts and by 1880 he was receiving important commissions. Eight years later he received the Golden Order of Merit from the emperor. He was one of the founders of the Vienna Secession in 1897, having been heavily criticized for the last three years as exhibiting a radical and very erotic style of painting. In the period of the creation of this work, Klimt began to create landscapes on the shores of the Attersee where the locals called him Waldschrat, the Forest Demon. He went on to even greater successes and died in 1918 in Vienna. The original measures 100 x 100 centimeters, is an oil on canvas and is in the Staatliche Kunstsammlung in Dresden, Germany.
