Description

This is a dramatic image of the ruins of the Templum Saturni which is at the base of the Capitoline Hill at the western end of the Forum Romanorum. The original temple was built in aout 497 BCE and these ruins are of the third reconstruction of 283 CE. The temple’s location at the base of the Capitoline Hill was the site of the very early altar of Saturn built in commemoration of the god’s foundation of the earliest settlement on the Capitoline Hill.
