Artist's Description
This is a reproduction of "The Storming of the Bastille" by Jean-Pierre Houel of 1789. This enhanced watercolor captures the pivotal event marking the beginning of the French Revolution on July 14, 1789. In the middle of the painting is shown the arrest of Bernard Rene Jourdan, the marquis de Launay at about 1:30 in the afternoon. The moment was captured by Jean-Pierre Houel who was then fifty-four years old. He had been drawing and painting since 1750 and had held a position in the French Academy in Rome. He traveled in Italy and published travel books in the 1780's. The original watercolor is 40.5 cm wide and 37.8 cm high.

About Jean-Pierre Houel
Troy Caperton was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1949. Raised in South Louisiana from 1953, he graduated from Baylor University in 1976 and pursued a Masters in History at the University of Louisiana until 1988 when he moved to Austin, Texas. For over ten years Caperton has been selling his original art and reproductions of original work and the masters through various portals on the Internet. One of his works won a Juror’s Prize at Austin’s Art Erotica in 2010. He has always been employed in helping positions and continues to produce works for the enjoyment of the public.
