Description
Albert Weisgerber was born in the Saarland in 1878 and studing at the Munich Art Academy from the age of nineteen years under Franz von Stuck. He created his own artist group the next year and became very active in the Munich café scene when he was twenty-six. He was the founding president in the Munich New Secession in 1913. He joined the German Army for World War I and was killed in action on May 10, 1915. His work Saint Sebastian was representative of his efforts which bridged Impressionism to early Expressionism. The painting is in the Saarland Museum in Saarbrucken and measures 160 by 110 centimeters. This masterpiece has been reproduced in an oil on canvas painting that is mounted on wooden bars and measures 13 x 20 inches. It is in the possession of the artist.
