This is a reproduction of “Samson and the Lion” of 1842 by Francesco Hayez. This is an oil on canvas that measures 210 by 162 centimeters and is in the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Florence. The artist was born in 1791 in Vence and early displayed an interest in drawing. He became a student of Francesco Maggiotto He entered the New Academy of Fine Arts in 1806 and three years later won a competition and was awarded a year of study in Rome. He stayed in Rome until he was twenty-three when he moved to Naples where he received a commission from Joachim Murat. By about 1835 he was in Milan where became director of the Academy of Brera in 1850. He was quite popular and became famous for his Romanticist paintings of Biblical figures, portraits and semi-nude female figures. He accumulated pupils and died well respected in 1882.

Troy Caperton was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1949. Raised in South Louisiana from 1953, he graduated from Baylor University in 1976 and pursued a Masters in History at the University of Louisiana until 1988 when he moved to Austin, Texas. For over ten years Caperton has been selling his original art and reproductions of original work and the masters through various portals on the Internet. One of his works won a Jurors Prize at Austins Art Erotica in 2010. He has always been employed in helping positions and continues to produce works for the enjoyment of the public.
