Artist's Description
This is a reproduction of Portrait of a Gentleman which is traditionally described as a portrait of Cesare Borgia in about 1500 by Altobello Melone. This is a reproduction of Portrait of a Gentleman which is traditionally described as a portrait of Cesare Borgia in aout 1500. The duke Valentinois was about twenty-four when this was painted and he was in the midst of his military campaigns by which he was attempting to carve out a dominion in the Italian Romagna. The artist was a native of Cremona and was about twenty years old when this was painted. It is not labeled specifically as Cesare Borgia, but that is the traditional denotation. It measures 48.2 centimeters by 58.1 centimeters and is in the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, Italy.
About Altobello Melone
Troy Caperton was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1949. Raised in South Louisiana from 1953, he graduated from Baylor University in 1976 and pursued a Masters in History at the University of Louisiana until 1988 when he moved to Austin, Texas. For over ten years Caperton has been selling his original art and reproductions of original work and the masters through various portals on the Internet. One of his works won a Juror’s Prize at Austin’s Art Erotica in 2010. He has always been employed in helping positions and continues to produce works for the enjoyment of the public.
