The duke Valentinois was about twenty-four when this was painted and he was in the midst of his military campaigns by which he was attempting to carve out a dominion in the Italian Romagna. The artist was a native of Cremona and was about twenty years old when this was painted. It is not labeled specifically as Cesare Borgia, but that is the traditional denotation. It measures 48.2 centimeters by 58.1 centimeters and is in the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, Italy.
