Description
This is a reproduction of “Olive Trees, Orange Sky” of 1889 by Vincent van Gogh. This is a masterpiece of Dutch Impressionism created when the artist was thirty-six and is one of eighteen paintings of olive trees that he executed, mostly in 1889 while he was in a voluntary asylum in Saint Remy de Provence. Van Gogh saw a special significance in olive trees as representing life and the divine. He associated them with Christ’s passion in the Garden of Gethsemane. This period of illness and turmoil but it nevertheless produced some of his finest works. Vincent van Gogh had great influence on 20th century art. He was troubled and suffered bouts of mental instability. He was little appreciated in his lifetime and produced over 2,100 artworks. He did not begin painting until about 1881. This masterpiece is an oil on canvas and is in the Goteborgs Konstmuseum in Goteborg, Sweden.
