Description
This is a reproduction of Joan of Arc by Alphonse Mucha of 1909. It was created as an oil on canvas prototype for a theatrical poster celebrating Maude Adams portrayal of the French Saint in Schiller's play, The Maid of Orleans. The performance was at the Harvard University Stadium and Mucha designed the costumes and sets. The original is 82.25 by 30 inches and is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Mucha was the founder of the movement Art Nouveau.
