Description
This is a reproduction of the 1922 masterpiece by Anton Kolig, “Sehnsucht, or Longing“. Kolig, an Austrian painter, recieved a scholarship to Paris in 1912 when he was twenty-six years old. He took in the latest formulating styles there though he carried with him the Expressionist values of the Notscher Kreis founded in Vienna. Kolig was a participant in the artist community at Nötsch im Gailtal and created several male nudes utilizing young men of the peasantry as models. “Longing” is one such work and it is in the Leopold Mueum in Vienna. He abandoned the community in the late 1920’s and secured a professorship at Stuttgart in 1928. He lost the professorship in 1943 and the next year was wounded in a bombing raid. He died at Nötsch im Gailtal in 1950. This masterpiece has been reproduced on an oil on canvas painting that measures 14 x 20 and is mounted on wooden bars. It is in the possession of the artist.
