This is a reproduction of “La Pompe a Feu, The Fire Engine” of 1879 by Eugene Burnand. The artist was born in 1850 at Moudon in Switzerland. He was impressed with the art of Florence when he was a student there for ten months when he was ten years old. Twelve years later he entered the Fine Arts School in Paris under Leon Gerome. He traveled to Italy in 1877 and, returning to France, he married and settled in Versailles. He began producing popular paintings including this work. He moved to Paris in 1885 and five years later to Montpellier. He returned to Switzerland in 1892 and lived back and forth between France and Switzerland until he finally settled in Paris in 1907. He died on February 4, 1921. The painting is in the Eugene Burnand Museum in Moudon, Switzerland and is an oil on canvas measuring 200 by 310 centimeters.
