Description
This is a reproduction of the Head of St. Michael, a detail of a fresco by Piero della Francesco of 1467. The original is in the National Gallery in London. Francesco is known for his serenely humanistic frescos. He used geometry and perspective in his frescoes. He was born in a Tuscan town in about 1415 and by the age of twenty-four was painting frescoes in Florence. He continued to work in his home town, Ferrara, Rome, Urbino and Rimini. He leaves a wonderful body of work and died in 1492 in San Sepolco, the city of his birth.
