Artist's Description

This is a reproduction of Winslow Homer's Masterpiece, "The Gulf Stream"of 1899. This magnificent work was inspired by Jonathan Copeley's Watson and the Shark of 1778. But Homer much more accurately depicts the body of a shark and presents a more desperate environment. The victim of the Gulf Stream is tied to the boat the mast of which has been broken. There are dangerous waves and a water-spout on the horizon. The Victim is utterly alone though on the far horizon a distant ship appears. The painting is 28.125 inches high and 49.125 inches wide. The masterpiece is currently at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
