Artist's Description
This is a reproduction of "Fishermen At Sea" by J. M. William Turner of 1796. This is an early work by the genius was his first exhibited at the Royal Academy. It depicts the fraility of human endeavor against the forces of nature. It depicts a scene near the Needles off the Ise of Wight. The fishermen are threatened by the dark sky, the wide sea and the rocks in the background. Their lamp provides a warm light in contrast to the cold moon. The painting appears to be influenced by Claude JosephVernet and created Turner’s reputation when he was just twenty-one years old. This masterpiece is an oil on canvas and measures 36 by 48.125 inches and has been in the possession of the Tate Gallery since 1972.
