Description
This is a reproduction of a beautiful image of the Globular Cluster, NGC 7049 by the Hubble Space Telescope. The Dust Lanes are the most prominent feature of this image and they are back-lit by the light of millions of stars in the halo of this cluster. The galaxy is about 150,000 light-years across and is located in the constellaiton Indus. It is about 100 million light-years from Earth. The rare structure of the galaxy may be the result of recent galactic collisions. The image was released in April, 2009.
