Artist's Description
This is a reproduction of a classic depiction of Norse Mythology represented “Day”, or Dagr riding his horse Skinfaxi. The divine figure is the personification of the day and is mentioned in the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda. The Norwegian artist Peter Nicolai Arbo created this painting at the age of forty-three. His training associated him with the Dusseldorf school of painting in Germany. He returned to Norway in 1861. He was knighted in 1866 and was director of the Christiana Art Society from 1882 until his death ten years later.
