Artist's Description
This is a reproduction Albert Bierstadt's masterpiece "The Rocky Mountains, Lander's Peak" of 1863. This oil on canvas painting was based on Bierstadt's sketches of 1859. It was an instant success and sold within two years for $ 25,000. When it was introduced, it was the artist's first one painting showing and almost a thousand people arrived for its first showing. Bierstadt later bought the painting back and gave it to his brother. It was acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1907.
