Artist's Description

This is a reproduction of Titian’s “Tribute Money” of about 1654. The subject of this painting is taken from the New Testament. The Pharisees ask Peter whether his master pays tax to the Romans. Christ sends Peter to the nearby sea to fetch the tribute money from the mouth of a fish.. Tiziano Vecelli was born in about 1490 in Pieve di Cadore within the Republic of Venice. When he was twelve he was sent to an uncle who arranged for him to enter an apprenticeship with the Gellini brothers. He gained in reputation as a late teen becoming a leader in the school of the “arte moderna”. He painted a fresco in 1511 Padua and in 1513 secured a public commission to complete paintings begun by Giovanni Bellini and by 1516 he held a government contract. Remarkably, for the next sixty years Titian, as he was known, was the unrivaled leader of the Venetian School of Painting. He executed many portraits and for the last twenty-five years of his life worked mainly for Philip II of Spain. He...

Titian

Troy Caperton was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1949. Raised in South Louisiana from 1953, he graduated from Baylor University in 1976 and pursued a Masters in History at the University of Louisiana until 1988 when he moved to Austin, Texas. For over ten years Caperton has been selling his original art and reproductions of original work and the masters through various portals on the Internet. One of his works won a Jurors Prize at Austins Art Erotica in 2010. He has always been employed in helping positions and continues to produce works for the enjoyment of the public.
