Artist's Description
This is a reproduction of "Collision of Moorish Horsemen" of about 1845 by Eugene Delacroix. This violent scene described the spectacular pageantry at the court of Sultan Abd-er-rahmen of Morocco which Delacroix witnessed while on a diplomatic mission for Louis Philippe in 1832. He was aged about forty seven when this was created. He had burst upon the French artistic word at the age of twenty-four with his "Barque of Dante" and became an immediate leader of the new Romantic movement. In contrast to the perfectionist Academics, Delacroix led the Romantics in the use of expressive brushstrokes being inspired by Rubens and Titan. He favored exotic scenes and emphasized color and movement rather than clarity of line. Though hs subjects were full of passion and violence, he depicted them with a great clarifty. About Eugene Delacroix
Troy Caperton was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1949. Raised in South Louisiana from 1953, he graduated from Baylor University in 1976 and pursued a Masters in History at the University of Louisiana until 1988 when he moved to Austin, Texas. For over ten years Caperton has been selling his original art and reproductions of original work and the masters through various portals on the Internet. One of his works won a Juror’s Prize at Austin’s Art Erotica in 2010. He has always been employed in helping positions and continues to produce works for the enjoyment of the public.
