Description
This is a reproduction of “Weeping Willow” of 1919 by Claude Monet. This is a masterpiece of French Impressionism iconic painting and symbolizes the deep mourning that the artist felt over the tremendous losses of the first World War. Though his home at Giverny was in the pathway of the German advance, Monet never left it and could even hear the German guns. Oscar Claude Monet was born in 1840 Paris and founded the Impressionist movement in fine art. At the age of seventeen he began painting "en plein air", an outdoor method of painting in which gestural and suggestive use of oils is made. After two years of military service in Algeria, Monet returned to Paris and painting and initiated the Impressionist style with collaborators, Renoir, Bazille and Sisley. He married Camille Doncieux in 1870 and painter her in several works until her death in 1879. Monet himself died in 1926. The painting is any oil on canvas measuring 99.7 by 120 centimeters. It is in the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas.
