Artist's Description

A reproduction of "Circe Invidiosa" of 1892 by John William Waterhouse. This work reflects and captures a moment from Greek mythology when the sorceress Circe poured a potion of herbs into a pool where Scylla was bathing. The nymph Scylla had rejected the amours of Circe's friend Glaucus and with the potin Circe cursed Scylla with such ugliness that the nymph became the monster of the straits of Messina between Italy and Sicily. Waterhouse often re-created scenes from the world of myth as did many of his fellow Pre-Raphaelites. Waterhouse was born to English painters in Rome who returned to England when he was five years old. He entered the Royal Academy of Art school in 1871 when he was aged 21 and within three years he had a successful painting. For the next forty years Waterhouse maintained his success and continued painting until his last illness made production impossible in 1915. He died two years later. John William Waterhouse

Troy Caperton was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1949. Raised in South Louisiana from 1953, he graduated from Baylor University in 1976 and pursued a Masters in History at the University of Louisiana until 1988 when he moved to Austin, Texas. For over ten years Caperton has been selling his original art and reproductions of original work and the masters through various portals on the Internet. One of his works won a Juror’s Prize at Austin’s Art Erotica in 2010. He has always been employed in helping positions and continues to produce works for the enjoyment of the public.
